Chautala firm on thwarting Reliance SEZ
Chandigarh, Sep 29: Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) Supremo Om Prakash Chautala today reiterated his opposition to the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) to be set up in Haryana by the Reliance and threatened to thwart it by not allowing transfer of the ''fertile land'' for the project.
Addressing his first press conference after he lost power one-and-a-half years ago, Mr Chautala alleged that fertile land worth hundreds of crores of Rupees was being given to the Reliance Industries Limited at throw away prices.
Accusing the Hooda government of favouring the Ambani group, he asserted that the INLD would not allow transfer of even an inch of fertile land for the proposed SEZ to be set up in Gurgaon and Jhajjar districts.
Asked how would he stop transfer of land, Mr Chautala said: ''Zamin pe ja kar baith jaunga aur hone nahin dunga.(I will sit over the land and won't let it happen)'' Mr Chautala had earlier spoken in a more harsh tone on the SEZ issue at INLD's Meham rally on September 25. ''Jo hamari upjau zameen ki taraf dekhega uski ankhen nikaal li jayengi (Whoever will eye our fertile land, their eyes would be gouged out)''.
