Cabinet nod to Rs 610 cr INSAT-4G spacecraft
New Delhi, Sep 29 (UNI) The Union Cabinet today approved the undertaking of the design, development and launch of GSAT-8/INSAT-4G communication satellite at the cost of Rs 610 crore with foreign exchange component of Rs 380 crore.
The project is expected to be completed in 24 months, Finance Minister P Chidambaram told reporters after the Cabinet meeting.
Of the total cost, Rs 300 crore is for the satellite, Rs 250 crore for the launch and Rs 60 crore for the insurance.
The state-of-the-art satellite will augment the INSAT system capacity with 18 Ku-band high power transponders, and meet the requirements of domestic Direct-To-Home transmissions, VSAT and comupter to computer connectivity, he said.
