Cabinet nod for SCCL project in AP

New Delhi, Sep 29 (UNI) The Union Cabinet today approved a Rs 249.03 crore expansion project of Singareni Collieries Company Ltd. (SCCL) in Andhra Pradesh.

With an estimated 1.167 million tonnes per year production capacity, the proposed Shantikhani Longwall project in Adilabad district would help meet the demand of thermal power stations of Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation and Maharashtra State Electricity Board, Finance Minister P Chidambaram told reporters after the meeting.

The cabinet also approved the flexibility in the implementation stage of the project, within the approved cost estimates, to respond to improvements in technology and equipments so as to achieve improved profitability and productivity parameters, he said.

The SCCL has 55 underground and 11 open cast mines. The mines produced 36.40 million tonnes of coal in 2005-06.
