Asamoah suffers double fracture, faces long lay-off
BERLIN, Sep 29 (Reuters) Germany striker Gerald Asamoah will be out for several months after suffering a badly broken left leg in Schalke 04's UEFA Cup defeat by Nancy.
Asamoah was taken to hospital while the game was still underway and underwent surgery the same night, Schalke said today.
The 27-year-old forward broke both tibia and fibula following a horrific looking tackle from Pape Diakhate. He will be out for ''many months'', Schalke said on their website.
''I've never seen anything like it,'' Schalke captain Marcelo Bordon told reporters after the game. ''It was completely out of order. I can't understand how it only brought a yellow card.'' Asamoah, a regular in the Germany squad, will certainly miss the friendly against Georgia on October 7 and the Euro 2008 qualifier away to Slovakia four days later.
