War like stores recovered, one militant arrested in Kashmir
Srinagar, Sep 27 (UNI) With the active cooperation of locals the troops unearthed two major hideouts and recovered war like stores and arrested a militant in the Kashmir valley during the past 24 hours, a defence ministry spokesman said.
He said troops received a specific information that militants will smuggle in arms and ammunition from north Kashmir into the city.
A vehicle check post was laid on Manasbal-Bandipur road, he said adding after a long wait a Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militant Manzoor Ahmad Rather, a resident of Ajas was apprehended along with one AK rifle, two magazines and 43 rounds of AK ammunition.
Spokesman said people are coming out with information about the militant activities and their hideouts.
He said on the basis of another specific information provided by locals, an army column was launched in the woods of Soekhal in south Kashmir district of Pulwama.
He said after conducting thourough search of the area for several hours, the troops finally unearthed a well camouflaged hideout deep under the woods.
The arms and ammunition recovered included one UBGL, one 7.62 mm universal machine gun, 1570 rounds of ammunition, 30 UBG grenades, four rocket propelled grenade, nine rocket propelled grenade boosters, ten high explosive rockets, seven hand grenades, two remote control improvised explosive devices, one wireless set and eight magazines.
He said in another similar operation the troops recovered war like stores buried under ground and wrapped in polythene covered with gunny bags at Tangdhar in north Kashmir.
The spokesman said troops recovered two AK rifles, seven magazines, 243 rounds, two pistols, four pistol magazines, 13 pistol ammunition, two radio sets, five hand grenades, five UBGL rounds and four rocket propelled grenade rounds during the search operation in Drata forest.
