UN aid for Gujarat in 'Anganwadi Kids Meal Scheme'

Gandhinagar, Sep 27 (UNI) The United Nations World Food Program today announced that they would be a participant in the state government's ambitious project of providing nutritious meals to 10 lakh children in 'anganwadis' in the age group of six months to three years.

An agreement was reached between UNWFP director, Mr Gian Pitro Boardignon and Women and Child Welfare minister, Anandiben Patel here today. Also present were Minister of State for Women and Child Welfare, Jashuben Savjibhai Korat and Principal Secretary JS Rana.

The UN World Food Program would contribute Rs 3.75 crores and the first phase of the tie up would last until December 31, 2007.

According to Ms Anandiben, the Women and Child Welfare department in a integrated approach would look after the welfare of 10 lakh children of age group from six months to three years in 41,484 anganwadis comprising 18,500 villages of 225 talukas.
