Sonia Gandhi releases water from new reservior in AP
Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh, Sep 27 (UNI) AICC president and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi today released the water to 50,000 acres of new Ayacut from Sri Pothuluri Veera Brahmendra Swamy reservoir near here.
Ms Gandhi, after attending the public meeting at the premises of the newly-constructed Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences in Kadapa Town, immediately flew to the site and resleased the water from the reservior constructed at a cost of Rs 115.03 crore.
The chairperson was accompanied by Union Minister for Urban Development S Jaipal Reddy, AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.
The reservoir, having the capacity of 17.50 TMC would provide irrigation facility to 50,000 acres of land in Kadapa, Chittor and Anantapur districts, which had two sluices.
Ms Gandhi later left for Kurnool to attend a public meeting as part of her one-day tour to the state.
