Hyderabad, Sep 27 (UNI) Former President of the BJP M Venkaiah Naidu has said there was an urgent need for reviewing National Security Policy of the UPA Government.

Addressing a press conference today he said the proposed talks between India and Pakistan were totally against national interest and compromised our position on Jammu and Kashmir.

He alleged the proposed India-Pakistan joint mechanism for supervision and monitoring of terror in Jammu and Kashmir was a trap laid by Pakistan to gain a foothold in Kashmir.

He said the party disagreed with the Centre's approach on Pakistan because the Prime Minister and General Musharraf had brought Jammu and Kashmir into focus while relegating cross border terrorism to the background.

He alleged the talk of 'non paper' and the statements by the Pakistan President, on a regular basis, branding terrorism in Kashmir as ''freedom movement'' and the absured shallow revelations he made in his book ''In the Line of Fire'' and the frequent utterances by the US Administration on Kashmir were all creating apprehension in the minds of the people that the country was being taken towards a dangerous path.

He said the BJP had decided to mobilise public opinion to bring pressure on the UPA government to adopt a tough stand on the issue of terrorism and also approach towards Pakistan.

He said the party would soon come out with a detailed action programme in this regard.
