Premier League sponsor extends deal to 2010
LONDON, Sep 27 (Reuters) The Premier League has agreed a deal with its sponsors for an extension worth 65.8 million pounds (124.3 million dollars) until the end of the 2009/10 season, the English soccer body said today.
The deal with Barclays is effectively an extension of the current 57-million-pound three-year deal, which had been due to expire at the end of the 2006/07 season.
The bank will also sponsor the pre-season Premier League Asia Trophy, which will be played in the European close-season next year.
The tournament has been played twice before in an Asian city, the last time in Bangkok in 2005 when Manchester City, Bolton Wanderers, Everton and the Thai national team took part.
''The Premier League has a big fan base in Asia and this is a chance for them to see Premier League teams,'' a spokesman for the body said.
