Nirupama Rao appointed Ambassador to China

New Delhi, Sep 27 (UNI) Ms Nirupama Rao, currently High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, has been appointed Ambassador to China in succession to Mr Nalin Surie.

In other appointments announced by the External Affairs Ministry today, Mr Deepak Bhojwani has been named as the next Ambassador to Columbia while Mr A Ramesh will be Ambassador to Peru.

Mr Bhojwani, currently Ambassador to Venezuela, will succeed Ms Nilima Mitra while Mr A Ramesh, currently Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan, will succeed Mr R.V. Warjri.

Ms Rao was earlier Joint Secretary External Publicity during the Agra Summit.

The appointments precede the taking over by Mr Shiv Shankar Menon, currently High Commissioner to Pakistan, as Foreign Secretary from Mr Shyam Saran on October one.
