Mizoram to privitise tourism resorts

Aizawl, Sep 27: In a bid to develop tourism sector here, initiatives are being taken to privatise highway restaurants and resorts in Hizoram.

State Tourism Minister Z H Ropuia told UNI '' we are making assessments to privatise highway restaurants and resorts as the first step .'' '' This initiative would not only increase revenue but also improve the quality of services rendered to the tourists, who visit here regularly,'' he added.

Mr Ropuia said some dilapidated restaurants have to be renovated and a few hotels would be upgraded to the status of 3-star hotels.

Government had also approached several private parties to construct new multi-tech tourist lodges at Zokhawthar (Indo-Myanmar border), Sakawrdai, Khamrang, Tlabung, Kanhmun and Saichoo, in the western belt of Mizoram at the cost of Rs 6.67 crores, he said.

During this fiscal about 29,893 domestic tourists and 230 foreign tourists have visited the state, the minister informed.

He also said the department is stressing on sponsoring interested students in food craft level and hotel management courses.
