Militants kidnap Vinoy Cement manager

Silchar, Sep 27 (UNI) Suspected Kuki militants have kidnapped a mines manager of Vinoy Cement Ltd (VCL) from the factory at Umrangshu in North Cachar Hill district of Assam, police said today.

They said at least eight suspected Kuki militants came to the stone-collecting site of the VCL, 120 km from Haflong, and kidnapped Ravi Shankar Thakur and two supervisors Noren Singh and Pabitra Ghosh yesterday.

The suspected militants were in camouflage attire and were carrying AK-series weapons.

The officials were on duty at the factory site at the time of kidnapping.

The police said the militants later in the evening released Mr Singh and Mr Ghosh. However, the fate of Mr Thakur was still unknown.

The Assam police battalion and the CRPF have been pressed into service along the areas of NC Hill's border with Karbi Anglong district and Meghalaya to rescue the manager and nab the kidnappers, they said.
