Manikrao bags K'taka Sangeetha Vidwan award

Mysore, Sep 27: The Karnataka Government has selected eminent Hindustani musician Dr Manikrao Raichurkar for the year's State Sangeetha Vidwan award.

Kannada and Culture, Tourism and Information Secretary I M Vittal Murthy told newspersons here that the award would be presented to Dr Raichurkar on October one by Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy in front of the illuminated palace. As is the usual practice, the awardee would be the Government's guest for one year.

Born in December 1921 in Raichur, Pandit Raichurkar took basic music lessons from his uncle Pandit J Nagashastri and then trained under Pandit Jagannath Bows of Maharashtra for seven years.
