Kolar Gold Field, Karnataka, Sep 27 (UNI) The Kolar district bandh called by the CPI(M), demanding that the Centre consider the proposal of the party-supported body to take over the Bharat Gold Mine Company, evoked total response and passed off peacefully.

All business establishments, banks, post offices and both Central and State Government offices remained closed. Government and private bus operators did not ply their services. However, private sector companies functioned as usual.

The CPI(M) had given the bandh call to demand that the Centre consider the proposal of Global Gold Mines Industrial Cooperative Society Ltd, formed by 3,050 workers, to take over the mines. It alleged that the Centre was ''protecting'' the Congress-backed Joint Trade Union Forum.
