JKDYF demands comprehensive policy for youth
Srinagar, Sep 27 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Youth Federation (JKDYF) has called for a comprehensive policy for the youth of the state to address the issue of growing unemployment and economic insecurity among them.
In a statement here, JKDYF leader Bashir Assad termed ''hollow'' the sloganeering by political parties in the state and asserted that economic self-reliance was the only solution to the problems of the youth in the state.
''The youth are major human resource for development, and thus key agents of social change, economic development and technological innovation,'' he added.
Mr Assad said there was a need for involvement and participation of the youth in socio-economic, cultural, and political environment of the country and in its development programmes.
The activities based on their specific needs, desires and aspirations was always needed, he added.
Stressing for a strong and dedicated youth front at the grass- root level, Mr Assad said youth organisations would become local pressure groups as well as catalytic agents for socio-economic, cultural, political and environment transformation with sustainability and self reliance as their hallmark.
The political forces in the state were engaged in securing points over each other and indulged in accusations and counter accusations while the future of youth was being shattered, he added.
The JKDYF leader said there was no one to take cognizance of the problems for the youth who in desperation resort to extreme human tendencies which were self assassinating.
''We are not aware of proposals such as autonomy and self-rule In fact, we strongly advocate political empowerment of the people.
No one has really worked on eradicating poverty, unemployment and socio-economic insecurity,'' Mr Assad added.
He asked the youth to join hands for fighting socio-political and economic exploitation at the hands of political elite.
