HC orders notice to SEC on election symbol
Chennai, Sep 27 (UNI) Madras High Court today ordered notice to the Tamil Nadu State Election Commission (SEC), on a petition, seeking to allot the 'Chakra Haldar' symbol to the Janata Party for the ensuing local body elections.
Ms Justice Prabha Sridevan ordered notice, on a petition filed by Janata Party President S Subramanian Swamy and posted the hearing to September 29.
Meanwhile, a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice A P Shah and Mr Justice K Chandru ordered notice, returnable by October ten, to the government, on a petition filed by Dalit Panthers of India (DPI) leader, Thol Thirumavalavan and two of his party collegues, seeking reservation for SC and ST in Chairman and Vice Chairman posts in town panchayats and municipalities.
Meanwhile, the General Secretary of Desiya Murpoku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK), S Ramu Vasanthan today filed a petition in Madras High Court, seeking to quash an order of the SEC dated September 22, 2006 and to allot the symbol 'Murasu' (Nagara) to the party to contest in the local body elections.
