Haryana to set up Vigilance Commission

Chandigarh, Sep 27 (UNI) The Haryana Government is actively considering setting up of a State Vigilance Commission.

State Chief Secretary, Prem Prashant told mediapersons here today that a committee had been set up to consider the appointment of the State Vigilance Commission, its functioning and jurisdiction.

At present all the vigilance cases were being routed through the Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister. After the formation of such a Commission, the cases would directly be forwarded to the State Vigilance Commission by the State Vigilance Bureau.

The Commission would be an independent and statutory body and its decision would be final. It would have the power to take action against the corrupt employees.

The Chief Secretary said that the Haryana Urban Development Authority has a plan to set up an Enforcement Wing besides appointing a Vigilance Officer to check the corruption in the organisation.

The Chief Secretary said all the Secretaries of the departments have been asked to appoint a Vigilance Officer to keep a strict vigil on the functioning of the employees. A complaint box would also be kept in every department, he said.

The Chief Secretary said the Government was planning to create the posts of Sub-Registrars at tehsil level with a view to eradicate corruption as most cases of corruption were related to sale and purchase of land or other property matters.

While referring to the setting up of a separate High Court of the State, the Chief Secretary said the team of the Union Law Ministry had already visited Chandigarh to take stock of the situation and would place its report before the Parliament for its approval.
