Gold worth Rs 1.25 crore siezed from passenger

Chennai, Sep 27 (UNI) The officials of the Income-Tax department today seized unaccounted ornamental gold weighing about 13 kg from a Chennai bound passenger at Kamaraj Domestic airport here.

Income-Tax Department sources said acting on a tip off, the officials intercepted G Suresh, who arrived here from Mumbai by an Indian Airlines flight and seized the ornamental gold.

The value of the seizure was about Rs 1.25 crore.

Preliminary enquiries revealed that Suresh was entrusted with the job of handing over the seized gold to a jeweller in the city.

Later, he was arrested, the sources added.
