Forest land scam echoes in Council

Belgaum, Sep 27 (UNI) The alleged Rs 800-crore forest land scam, echoed in the Special Session of the Karnataka Legislative Council today with the Opposition Congress rushing to the well of the House in protest against the Chair for not allowing to move a special motion.

As soon as the House assembled, Chairman Sachidanand Khot asked the leader of the House to table the Karnataka Town and Country Planning (Amendment) Bill.

Leader of the Opposition H K Patil, moving an adjournment motion on Rs 800-crore forest land scam, also appealed to the chair to allow the members to make a special mention in connection with the development of North Karnataka region, for the purpose of which the Special Session had been convened in the border district.

When Mr Khot refused to entertain the demand, Congress members, led by G B Patil, rushed to the well of the House. At this stage, Mr Patil appealed to the chair not to yield to the pressure tactics of the ruling members.

He said the ruling party members somehow did not want the corruption allegation being viewed on CNN -IBN, involving Rs 800- crore in connection with sale of the forest land in the state.

With near pandemonium prevailing, Mr Khot adjourned the House for ten minutes.
