Chandimandir Military Station to have another Army School
Chandigarh, Sep 27 (UNI) In yet another initiative aimed at providing better facilities to the families of the Army personnel and creating a congenial atmosphere for imparting quality education to their children, Mrs Mohini Daljeet Singh, President, Western Command Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA)-Regional, today laid the foundation stone of the Army School at Chandimandir Military Station.
The Army School would be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 6.50 crore, scheduled to be completed by March 2008 would be able to accommodate nearly 2400 children.
Senior officers of the Western Command including Lt Gen A N Aul, Chief of Staff, HQ Western Command were also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Mrs Daljeet Singh exhorted the school management to think modern and stressed that in their pursuit of excellence they whould ensure that the students get the state-of-the art facilities. The new school should be able to provide invigorating environment to the children where they would be able to exploit their talent to the fullest, she added.
The need to augment the capacity of the existing two Kendirya Vidyalayas and one Army School, which are already over-subscribed, was also felt due the fact that the Chandimandir Military Station is likely to witness an increase in population of children after the completion of the ongoing Married Accommodation Project (MAP), under which 1176 houses would come up at Chandimandir at a cost of about Rs 110 crore in the first phase.
The school which would have 60 class rooms, besides having laboratories for computer and science teams, libraries for primary and junior students, an amphitheatre, a multipurpose hall and a sports stadium with a pavillion for 500 students and covered shelter for 60 persons.
Keeping in line with the station's philosophy of being eco-friendly, the stadium would also cater for rainwater harvesting to maintain the environmental and ecological balance of Chandimandir Military Station.
