Car bomb near Baghdad market kills 5, wounds 8

BAGHDAD, Sep 27 (Reuters) A car bomb exploded near a crowded market in southern Baghdad's Bayaa district today, killing five people and wounding eight others, police said.

The car was parked at the side of a road and detonated by remote control. Police said the casualty toll was likely to rise.

Sunni Muslim insurgents have regularly attacked crowds of civilians in mostly Shi'ite areas such as Bayaa as part of tit-for-tat communal violence that is claiming dozens of lives in Iraq every day.
