Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Sep 27 (UNI) Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Gopinath Munde today threatened to launch a mass protest in the Marathwada region on October 5 by burning an effigy of the Democratic Front (DF) government, if it failed to provide relief to the flood-affected people of the region by October 2.

Addresing a news conference, Mr Munde said the flood-affected people should get relief till October 2, as per the provisions of the last year. His party has been insisting on the complete rehabilitation of the villages in line with those of the quake-affected people.

The party would wait till October 2 for distribution of financial aid to the flood-affected people in the Marathwada and would submit proposals to the respective district collectors on behalf of the flood-affected people from the region in due course, he noted.

The former Deputy Chief Minister expressed his displeasure over the government's lack of attention towards the economically-backward region and total ignorance towards the flood-affected region.

Mr Munde told reporters that he had expected the state cabinet which met here recently, to touch upon the three basic issues such as Godavari floods, financial aid to the relatives of the farmers who had committed suicides in Marathwada, in line with the Vidarbha and declare Latur, Osmanabad, Beed and some parts of Parbhani districts as the drought-prone areas.

However, none of these issues were discussed by the cabinet, he alleged.
