Bhattacharjee holds meeting to tackle Maoist threat

Kolkata, Sep 27 (UNI) West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee today held a high level meeting to tackle the growing menace of the underground Maoists in the state's three districts.

The meeting, which was convened by Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, reviewed the present situation in West Midnapore, Purulia and Bankura districts, all bordering Jharkhand.

The meeting primarily discussed ways to isolate the Maoists from the local people in their bases in remote and backward areas.

It also took up for discussion the recent landmine blast at Lalgarh in West Midnapore district, in which two policemen were killed and 29 others, including seven mediamen, were injured.

Besides the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary Amit Kiran Deb, Home Secretary Prasad Ranjan Ray, Director General of Police Anup Bhora and Commissioner of Kolkata Police Prasun Mukherjee were among others, who attended the meeting.
