Authorities mull ways to keep agitators from 'filmy' protests
Jaipur, Sep 27 (UNI) District authorities in Sriganganagar are engaged in finding ways to deter protests, inspired by the antics of filmstar Dharmendra in the 1970s blockbuster 'Sholay'.
At Raisannagar in Sriganganagar district, seven farmers climbed to the top of a 50-ft high water tank on Monday and threatened to jump off if they were not immediately paid the outstanding amount of their mustard crop, procured by the state government last year.
Yesterday, some Congress workers from Suratgarh area in the district also adopted the same tactic to press their demand for the removal of an Additional Collector from the district.
The belaguered district administration has been thinking of measures to tackle the situation, such as erecting barricades around the water towers. They were also mooting purchasing safety nets, like the ones used by the Army and by circuses, for such situations.
District collector Kunjilal Meena said that the police have been directed to file criminal cases against the people resorting to such ''intimidating tactics'' while the administration was also taking precautions to tackle any eventuality.
