Arunachal to celebrate Lord Buddha's 2550th ann
Itanagar, Sep 27: Arunachal Pradesh would be celebrating the sixth Buddha Mahotsava to mark the 2550th anniversary of Lord Buddha at the picturesque Tawang district on November 5.
Described as the last Sangri-La on the earth, Tawang with snow-capped mountains and perennial streams is located at an altitude of 10,200 ft is the abode of the 400-year-old Buddhist monastery of the Mahayana Buddhist.
Tawang, also the birth place of VIth Dalai Lama, attracts Buddhists from all over the world, sources said.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi had assured to attend the festival to a delegation of leaders led by state Power and Non-conventional Energy Resources Minister Dorjee Khandu at New Delhi yesterday.
'' It would be a great honour to inaugurate the festival celebrated to preach the ideals of Lord Buddha,'' Khandu quoted Mr Sonia saying.
