Aluminium production for Apr-Aug 06 estimated at 4,60,165 tonne

New Delhi, Sep 27 (UNI) The total production of aluminium metal in the country during April-August, 2006, has been estimated at 4,60,165 tonnes as against 3,84,430 tonnes during the same period last year.

According to an official statement issued here today, the public sector National Aluminium Company Ltd (NALCO) produced 1,50,586 tonnes and Bharat Aluminium Company Ltd (BALCO) with 49 per cent Central Government equity 1,12,995 tonnes. The private sector Hindalco Industries Ltd (HINDALCO) produced 1,80,513 tonnes and Madras Aluminium Company Ltd (MALCO) 16,071 tonnes.

NALCO, during the month of August, sold 32,172 tonnes of alumina/ hydrate and exported 9,321 tonnes of aluminium. The total production of aluminium by these companies during the month was 94,385 tonnes against a target of 93,647 tonnes.
