AIADMK MLA files PIL against autonomy to JIPMER

Chennai, Sep 27 (UNI) A public interest litigation was filed today in Madras High Court, seeking to restrain the state and union governments from proceeding further in changing the character of the dministration of JIMPER from being a government organisation to that of an autonomous body.

The PIL filed by AIADMK Puducherry unit Secretary and MLA A Anbalagan is likely to come up for hearing tomorrow.

In his PIL, Mr Anbalagan also sought a direction to the Centre and the state government to adhere to the tenets of the agreement dated October 21, 1954 and the treaty dated may 28, 1956 between the Government of France and the Government of India.

He submitted that the territories of Puducherry were ruled as a colony by France. On mutual deliberation a peaceful agreement was made which led to the treaty of cessation of the France and establishment of Pondicherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam.

The same was signed on May 28, 1956. By the said treaty, France ceded to India full sovereignity to the territory of Puducherry, he submitted.

He said the hospital was established in 1823 and over the years, it has acquired mammoth proportion.

Subsequent to the acceding of the France treaty, the Indian Government started governing the establishment and other administrative issues named so after the demise of Jawaharlal Nehru.

It was receiving a grant of Rs 104 crore per year and catering to the poor by providing free treatments.

The hospital was of immense service to the poor, he added.

He said it was now sought to be made autonomous with 22 persons as members of the governing body to run the institution. A considerable number of politicians were sought to be included on the panel.
