Advise to village panchayat Presidents

Puducherry,Sept 27(UNI)Mr.Jose Thomas,Malayattoor village panchayat president,Kerala and Mr.A.Dinakar Nagalapuram Mandal president of Andhra Pradesh today exhorted the village panchayat presidents here to fight for their due powers.

The duo who participated as special invitees in a meeting of 71 village panchayat presidents here said that the village panchayat was functioning properly in their respective states and is like a local self-government.

They said the powers of the gram sabha should be properly utilised and added that it is the gram sabha which prepares the list of government schemes for benificieries including old age, widow and handicapped pensionersc.

The primary health centres and schools come under the control of village panchayats,they added.
