US stocks rise after confidence data

NEW YORK, Sep 26 (Reuters) US stocks rose on Tuesday after stronger-than-expected September consumer confidence data boosted optimism about spending and profits.

In addition, the Richmond Federal Reserve Bank's September manufacturing index rose.

The Dow Jones industrial average was up 39.87 points, or 0.34 percent, at 11,615.68. The Standard&Poor's 500 Index was up 2.80 points, or 0.21 percent, at 1,329.17. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 5.49 points, or 0.24 percent, at 2,254.56.

Before the data, stocks were trading little changed.
