Unseeded Potro downs his idol, Moya

Mumbai, Sep 26 (UNI) Fifth seed Carlos Moya of Spain was bundled out of the 380,000 dollar Kingfisher Airlines Open Tennis tournament by unseeded Argentine Juan Martin Delhi Potro at the CCI courts here today.

Potro won 6-3, 6-2 to book a place in the second round and cause the biggest upset of the tournament so far.

Potro, ranked 106 in the world and 12 years junior of the former world number one Carlos Moya, gave a wonderful exhibition of booming serves and groundstrokes to score the biggest win of his career so far.

The 18-year-old Potro, who used to idolise Moya as a youngster, made the spaniard move from side to side and not giving him a chance to use his formidable forehand.

Potro took early advantage breaking Moya in the very second game of the first set, only to see the tour veteran come back to break him in the very next game.

However, Potro, using his power game, broke Moya once again in the fourth game to regain the advantage and then finished off the first set at 6-3.

This set win gave the Argentine the confidence to believe he could beat Moya and began the second set with breaking Moya. Potro then did not let go off the advantage and with his booming serve did not give a chance to Moya to break him.

Potro broke Moya once again in the seventh game to wrap up the match at 6-2 and move into the second round in one hour and four minutes.

Potro, though having just one ace to Moya's three, served consistently getting 74 per cent of his serves in. He also had three double faults compared to just one from Moya.

Moya speaking after the match said he was disappointed. ''Today some how my game totally went off the radar. He (Potro) did not play any exceptional tennis. Today was such a day that he only had to put the ball in the court for him to win,'' Moya said.

Moya, however, still termed the Argentine as having a very good future. He hits the ball hard and looks a complete player. He has a good career ahead of him, Moya added.
