UNI AGM meet says activities to be expanded

New Delhi, Sep 26: The Board of Directors of United News of India (UNI) today said the basic character of the company would remain unchanged and its activities expanded to give it a global footprint.

The meeting of the Board was preceded by the annual general meeting (AGM) of the company at which accounts for the year ended March 31, 2006 were unanimously approved.

Mr Vir Sanghvi of HT Media and Mr Arindam Sengupta of Bennett, Coleman and Co. Ltd were unanimously re-elected as Directors of the Company.

The AGM was attended by representatives of almost all shareholders of the company, including ABP Private Ltd, HT Media Ltd, Jagran Prakashan Ltd, Express Publications (Madurai) Ltd, The Statesman Ltd, Kasturi and Sons Ltd, Mediavest India Pvt Ltd, The Printers (Mysore) Ltd, Manipal Media Network Ltd and Nava Bharat Press Bhopal Pvt Ltd.

At the meeting of the Board of Directors that followed, Mr Subhash Chandra, Mr Jawahar Goel, Mr P C Lahiri and Mr C S Vishwanathan were co-opted as Directors.

Mr Manoj Kumar Sonthalia, Chairman of the UNI Board of Directors, said the Board unanimously resolved to offer on a rights basis and at a premium the balance unissued shares of the company to all shareholders, by giving 21 days' notice.
