Tension in Reliance refinery complex as worker dies in accident

Jamnagar, Sep 26 (UNI) The death of a refinery worker in a road accident today sparked off tension at the Reliance Refinery complex in Jamnagar as around 500 co-workers gathered on the road and shouted slogans demanding action against the driver of the vehicle that ran over him.

Jamnagar Superintendent of Police Rajiv Ranjan Bhagat said the situation was under control. ''As a precaution, we have deployed a SRP company and ten to 12 officers at the complex,'' he said.

A Reliance company worker was killed in the morning when a dumper that was reversing ran over him. He was taken to the Jamnagar Civil Hospital, where he died. His body will now be taken to Gwalior, his hometown.

He said initially the workers had refused to go to work, demanding action against the driver. Some of the workers also targetted the company in their slogan-shouting, sources said.

Later, they were pacified and persuaded to join work, sources said. Only one sub-contractor at the SEZ, Quality Construction company declared a holiday today in view of the tension.
