South Korea make cut for World Cup in Barbados

SINGAPORE, Sep 26 (Reuters) South Korean pair SK Ho and Charlie Wi have been given direct entry to December's World Cup in Barbados.

Players qualified for the event at Sandy Lane Resort's Country Club Course according to their position in the Official World Golf Ranking as of September 11. The highest-ranking available players from 18 countries qualified automatically.

As host nation, Barbados will also field a team and will be joined by Singapore and Italy, who finished first and second at a World Cup qualifier in Malaysia this month.

Three more teams will be added to the list after the Nations Cup qualifier in Aruba this week.

Korea's Ho, ranked 80th in the world, partnered Choi Kyoung-ju in the 2002 World Cup in Mexico when South Korea finished third.

It will be the first time Ho and Wi, ranked second on the Asian Tour's Order of Merit, will play together at the World Cup since it was added to the World Golf Championships series in 2000.

The World Cup will also feature eight players who took part in last week's Ryder Cup, Scotland's Colin Montgomerie, Stewart Cink and JJ Henry of the U.S., Luke Donald and David Howell of England, Irish pair Padraig Harrington and Paul McGinley, and Henrik Stenson of Sweden.

Welsh pairing Bradley Dredge and Stephen Dodd will be defending the title they won last year in Portugal.
