Six journalists given awards for development reporting
Shimla, Sep 26 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh presented Developmental Journalism Awards to six journalists for developmental reporting at a glittering ceremony held here today.
He gave away National award to Saurav Sanyal for year 2004, State Awards to Shashi Kant Sharma and Vijay Puri for the year 2003 and 2004 respectively.
Similar District level Awards were given to Shri Birbal Sharma, Shri Chanchal Pal Chauhan and Shri Kuldeep Chauhan for the year 2002, 2003 and 2004 respectively. This function was organized by Information and Public Relations Department.
Under the National award a citation and a cash award of Rs.
25,000 was given while a citation and cash award of Rs. 20,000 was given under State award. Under the District level award, a citation and cash award of Rs. 15,000 was given.
The Chief Minister, while congratulating the awardees, lauded the role of the journalists in national reconstruction and motivating the masses for bringing social and economic transformation.
He said that Press and Electronic Media has a great impact on the society thus journalists have a crucial role to play as the power of media is immense and so are its responsibilities.
Underlining the importance of media, Mr Virbhadra Singh said that media had played a vital role in freedom movement.
