Sewak Cycling Expedition leaves Imphal for Myanmar

Imphal, Sep 26 (UNI) Sewak Cycling Expedition for Peace and Development 2006 today left Imphal for Myanmar to promote adventure tourism.

The cycling team had reached Manipur yesterday. The team was received by Major General B.K.Chengapa and Inspector General Assam Rifles (South). Maj Gen Bhengapa.

Assam Rifles spokesperson said in keeping with the spirit of promoting adventure activities in the country, Project Sewak is conducting the Cycling Expedition in Nagaland and Manipur. The expedition would proceed towards Myanmar. The campaign began on September 11 and conclude on October 6.

The expedition team comprising 22 members would cover a distance of nearly 1400 kilometres over a span of 26 days. The expedition was flagged off by the Nagaland Governor at Dimapur on September 11, 2006. The expedition covered Kohima, Chakabama, Zunheboto, Mokokchung, Tuensang, Kiphre, Jessami, Kohima at Nagaland and Maram, Senapati, Imphal at Manipur.

They would go to Tamu the first border town of Myanmar and proceed towards Kalemyo and Kalewa passing through heights varying from 3000-5000 feet at Myanmar.
