Police constable and 5 businessmen arrested in CSO attack
Sambalpur, Sep 26 (UNI) A constable and five businessmen were arrested by police yesterday on charges of assaulting a Civil Supply Officer (CSO) at Deogarh recently.
Police said today one Papa Khan, a reserve police constable, was arrested here in connection with attack on Deogarh CSO Ananta Charan Patnaik.
Besides Khan, five other businessmen with political affiliation, were also arrested by the police. All the arrested people were handed over the Deogarh police for further investigation.
Sambalpur Superintendent of Police S Devdatt Singh said all the accused had confessed of committing the crime.
The CSO had taken strong action against one Deepak Agrawal for his involvement in the recycling of BPL rice in the district and imposed a fine of Rs 50 lakh on him for recycling of rice in his rice mill at Deogarh.
This enraged the businessman to take revenge on the CSO, police sources said.
When contacted, Deogarh Superintendent of Police Prabin Kumar refused to comment on the allegation of the CSO about the involvement of Deogarh Collector in the incident saying that the investigation still going on.
