Indian boy injured in BDR firing in Cachar sector
Silchar, Sep 26 (UNI) One child was injured in Kinnokhal village of Cachar sector in Asom today when the Bangladeshi troops targeted Indian positions, BSF soucres said.
The bullet hit a class-one student of Tafasili Janata LP School in Kinnokhal near Indo-Bangladesh border. He was undergoing treatment in Silchar Medical Collage Hospital, BSF sources said.
Sources said at the time of crossfire between BSF and BDR, the students of the school, situated close to the international border, came out of the school in fear. They tried to rush towards their respective homes when a bullet from an automatic rifle fired by BDR hit the student.
BSF sources said some Bangladeshi shepherds entered the Indian territory at Kinnokhal village this morning. BSF personnel asked them to leave the Indian territory along with their cattle. However, despite repeated warnings when the Bangladeshis did not pay any heed, BSF opened fired at them.
Soon after the intruders left the place, BDR started heavy firing from Barothakuria border outpost in Jakiganj sector of Sylhet sector of Bangladesh. This made the BSF retaliate. Sources said apart from Kinnokhal, firing was also reported from Saidpur village along the 32-km long international border in Cachar sector.
However, there is no report of any causalty or injury on the Bangladesh side.
This is the seventh incident of cross-border firing in this sector over Bangladeshi farmers bid to encroach Indian farmland in Cachar sector across Surma river over the last nearly three months.
