Govt committed to police reforms: Patil

New Delhi, Sep 26: The government today asserted its commitment to police reforms to make the police more efficient, accountable and humane.

Home Minister Shivraj Patil said this at a high-level meeting held to discuss the recent Supreme Court judgement on police reforms .

The meeting felt that the order was generally in line with the thinking in the Home Ministry on police reforms.

The Home Minister was informed that the Police Act Drafting Committee would be submitting its report next month and it was likely to pave the way for replacing the Police Act of 1861 with a new Act incorporating far-reaching police reforms.

The meeting which lasted one hour was attended by Home Secretary V K Duggal, Legal Affairs Secretary T K Viswanathan and Commissioner of Delhi Police K K Paul were among those who attended the meeting.
