Four of a family die in suicide pact

Chennai, Sept 26: Four members of a family died in a suicide pact at suburban Pattabhiram in adjoining Tiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu today.

Police sources said in fact five people consumed poison last night, but the family head Jayaraman (58) was battling for life at the Intensive Care Unit of the Government Kilpauk Medical College hospital.

The deceased were identified as Jayaraman's wife Gowri (55), his brother Gnanaprakasham (55), brother's wife Margaret Manimegalai (42) and Jayaraman's son Arputharaj (18).

All of them were found dead in the residence and the police broke open the door and sent the bodies for a post-mortem.

The three children of Jayaraman were suffering from kidney problems and he was struggling to meet their medical expenses.

The Police suspect financial constraint to be the motive behind the suicide.
