Entire NE region is insurgency affected: Sarkar
Agartala, Sep 26 (UNI) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar has said that insurgency problems prevail not only in Tripura but the entire North East region.
Sources from New Delhi said here today that the Chief Minister said this after inaugurating a renovated Tripura emporium 'Purbasha' in the capital yesterday.
He further said that there were about 26 North East militant camps operating from Bangladesh and the Centre should tackle the situation with multi-pronged strategies.
He has requested the Centre to pressurise and initiate dialogues with the Bangladesh Government for not allowing these groups to operate from their lands against the disintegration of the country sources added.
Blaming the Centre's 'step-motherly' treatment meted out towards the NE states as one of the major causes for growth of terrorism in the region, Mr Sarkar said adding that infrastructure has not been developed properly in post-independence period..
''Even after 59 years of independence, not only Tripura but the entire North-Eastern region are neglected which had forced a section of the youths to pick up arms against the present system,'' said Sarkar adding that economy was not growing in the entire region.
