Egypt destroys tunnel under border into Gaza

ISMAILIA, Egypt, Sep 26 (Reuters) Egyptian security forces destroyed today a tunnel running under the border with the Gaza Strip and used by smugglers, security sources said.

The tunnel, which was three metres in diameter and ran eight metres under the surface, started in a deserted building on the Egyptian side of the border town of Rafah, they said. No people or weapons were found in the area.

Israel has repeatedly asked Egypt to crack down on tunnels under the border, which have been used to smuggle goods and weapons into the Gaza Strip.
