Dempo routes Velsao Pale 7-0
Duler, Mapusa, Sep 26 (UNI) Powered by a splendid brace by Antony Pereira, defending champions Dempo sports club scored an emphatic 7-0 win over a helpless Velsao Pale and earned full points in their tenth round of the Hutch GFA professional football league championship match being played here at Duler ground today.
While in the second match played at Fatorda Stadium Margao, a second half injury minute goal by Nigerian Petric Okoji enabled Former Champion Salgaocar sports club to hold Bottam placed Corps of Signals to 1-1 draw and split points.
In a totally one-sided match at Duler, Dempo began on a rousing note exhibiting brillinat ball control and shooting power giving good account of themsleves particularly in the first half and forged ahead as early as in the 14th minute through Clifford Miranda off a pass from Samir Naik.
Dempo increased their lead in the 25th minute through Anthony Pereira off a through pass received from Johny D' Cruze. Marcus Peixote made it 3-0 in favour of Dempo in the 44th minute off a pass from Climax Lawrence.
During the injury minute of the first half Dempo pumped in two more goals through Peter Carvalho and Climax Lawrence and at half time Dempo were leading by 5-0.
Dempo continued to attack in the second half too and further increased their lead through Anthony Pereira (his brace) in the 48th minute to make it 6-0. Lester Ferandes completed the rout scoring 7th goal for his side off a pass from Stanely Coutinho.
Lester Ferandes was adjudged man of the match.
At Fatorda, Corps of signals, who had better share of exchanges today shot into the lead in the 79th minute through Moiremthem Singh who back header found the net following a flag kick taken by Surajit Mondal.
Stung by a debacle, Salgaocar made series of attack for an equaliser and were lucky to restored the parity in the injury minute of the second half through Petric Okoji. When a long ball, Signals goalkeepr Bimal Kumar Das could not grab properly, which slipped from his hand, deflected towards Okoji, who was lurking inside the goal pounced upon the opporunity and just tapped it into the net to make it 1-1.
In the third match of the day, Vasco sports club edged out Raia Sporting by 2-1 and gained full points.
With today's round, Salgaocar maintained its third place with 17 points from 10 outings, behind table toppers Churchill Brothers with 21 points nine outings and Sporting club de Goa with 19 points from eight outings. followed by Dempo with 16 points, Vasco with 13, Raia Sporting and Velsao pale 10 each and Singals at the bottom with 2 points.
