CPI seeks temporary relief from ceilings
New Delhi, Sep 26 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (CPI) today submitted a memorandum to Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy seeking an end to demolitions and ceilings till the authorities properly identify areas notified for mixed land use.
A letter signed by party national secretaries D Raja and Amarjeet Kaur, among others, also demanded regularisation of all unauthorised colonies twice listed for giving formal status.
The two-page memorandum said the party was categorical that land mafias and corrupt officials should not be allowed to remain unpunished, but the demolitions were causing anxiety due to confusion in government notifications.
The police excesses have added to the problems of the poor, lower and middle income group, the party said while urging Mr Reddy to withdraw cases against citizens who resisted ceilings and demolitions.
