Court sentences former NLC CMD on forgery case
Chennai, Sep 26 (UNI) A city Metropolitan court today convicted and sentenced Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) former Chairman and Managing Director P V Bhupathi to one-year rigorous imprisonment in a forgery case.
The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Egmore, also sentenced four others, including Mr Bhupathi's wife, mother-in-law and brother-in-law, to one year RI for their involvement in the criminal conspiracy.
Four other accused, including Mr Bhupathi's co-brother, were acquitted of the charges.
According to the Anti-Corruption Branch of Central Bureau of Investigation, Mr Bhupathi and others entered into a criminal conspiracy at Chennai, Panruti, Kumbakonam, Coimbatore and other places in 1996 to fabricate evidence in a judicial proceeding in connection with disproportionate wealth case against him by creating ante-dated and forged documents .
The chargesheet was filed against ten people on April 19, 1999.
During the trial, an accused Mr R K Saranatha Chettiar, who was the father-in-law of Mr Bhupathi, and approver V S Sivan died, a CBI release added.
