Congress stages walkout

Belgaum, Sep 26 (UNI) Opposition Congress staged a walkout in protest against certain remarks made by a member of the treasury bench against Opposition leader N Dharam Singh during the special session of the Legislative Assembly today.

Unruly scenes were witnessed and books were thrown by Congress members.

The trouble started when Mr Singh, addressing the house, said that his party fully supported discussion on drought, backwardness and other issues pertaining to North Karnataka, but the behaviour of some of the members of treasury bench insisting on floating of rules was not proper.

At this stage a remark made by Sidhu Saudi (BJP) forced Mr Singh to abruptly end his address and staged a walk out and he was followed by the entire opposition parties.

While walking out the Congress members threw books and papers towards the chair and one of the book thrown fell on a staff of the speakers' secretariat.

Home Minister M P Prakash, expressing disappointment over the incident and behaviour of the members of the Treasury bench, condemned the act of Congress members and sought the Chair to adjourn the house for few minutes to convince the agitating Congress members to come back to the house.

Speaker Krishna, taken aback with the unruly behaviour of the members, obliged the Minister and adjourned the house for 30 minutes.
