CM lambasts BJP for its "dual stand" on Telangana issue
Nalgonda, Andhra Pradesh, Sep 26 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today lambasted the BJP for its ''double stand'' on Telangana issue.
Addressing a public meeting here after dedicating the Alimineti Madhava Reddy Irrigation Project to the nation, Dr Reddy said while the BJP was in power at the Centre it kept quite on the Telangana issue and now when it was out of power, it started inciting the people of Telangana with statehood issue and was posing as the champion for the Telangana cause.
Dr Reddy said the BJP due to its alliance with the TDP during the NDA regime, remained silent on the Telangana issue as the TDP was opposing to the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.
On the TRS stand on Telangana, the Chief Minister said the party which accepted for the constitution of a Second States Re-organization Commission initially, later said it left the issue to AICC President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi.
While the Congress Party's stand was to obtain consensus on the matter, the TRS had been changing its stand from time to time, he alleged.
He said ''Damocles sword could not be hung and demand be made for a decision on Telangana within a short time.'' When TRS left the issue to the decision of Ms Gandhi they should have waited for her decision, he added.
