Appeal against Navjot Sidhu murder case to be heard on Nov 16

Chandigarh, Sep 26 (UNI) The Punjab and Haryana High Court will hear on November 16 the Punjab government's appeal against the Patiala district court's verdict in which cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu had been acquitted in a murder case.

A separate appeal filed by the son of the victim, who had died allegdly of beating by Mr Sidhu in 1988 at Patiala, would also be heard by the high court on that day.

While ordering this, the Punjab and Haryana High Court's division bench of Justices Mehtab Singh Gill and Baldev Singh today also directed the High Court registrar to provide paper books of the case to respondent Navjot Singh Sidhu's counsel and to the counsel for the Punjab government.

The district and sessions judge, Patiala had on September 22, 1999 acquitted Sidhu in the case registered under section 304 and 34 IPC at police station, Kotwali, Patiala on December 27, 1988 for causing the death of Gurnam Singh, who was beaten up by Sidhu and his associates in a dispute over the parking of vehicles outside the State Bank of Patiala there.
