Ancic eases into 2nd round; Bopanna/Ghouse ousts top seeds in double
Mumbai, Sep 25 (UNI) Second seed and world number 11 Mario Ancic of Croatia got off to a flying start as he packed off Igor Kunitsyn of Russia 6-2, 6-3 to enter the second round of the 3,80,000 dollar Mumbai Open at the CCI courts here today.
Ancic, with his booming serve and clever court play, never let the Russian into the match. He broke Kunitsyn in the fourth game to take an early 3-1 lead. This break was enough for Ancic to take the first set 6-3 in 45 minutes.
The Croat started off, in the second, where he had left off in the first, breaking the Russian in the first game and then again in the third to surge to a 3-0 lead.
The Russian though came back to hold his serve twice, however, he could not break the big serving 22-year-old. Ancic in fact, finished off the match with three aces, and smashed a total of six aces in the match.
The Croat apart from his booming serve, also returned very well on a court, which he thought was difficult and therefore not easy to get cheap points.
