YSR to release water from AMR Canal Sep 26
Hyderabad, Sep 24 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy would formally lift the gates of the Alimineti Madhava Reddy Canal (AMR-Srisailam Left Bank Canal) tomorrow to release water for irrigating 50,000 acre of land in Nalgonda District, Major Irrigation Minister P Laxmaiah said.
Speaking to newsmen here today, Mr Laxmaiah said the Rs 1,200 crore AMR Project envisaged irrigation of 2.70 lakh acre of land and provision of drinking water to 516 fluoride-affected villages in 21 Mandals of the district. An amount of Rs 944 crore was spent on this project so far.
He said the Chief Minister and Home Minister K Jana Reddy would also lay foundation stone for low level canal pump at the site on the occasion.
The government was committed to supply irrigation water to 7.5 lakh acre during this year, he said.
