Villagers attack BSF jawans at Tripuras west district

Agartala, Sep 25 (UNI) An enraged mob attacked BSF jawans in Sonamura village in Tripura's west district after the jawans allegedly caught a villager suspecting him to be a smuggler.

Police here today said the BSF jawans fired four rounds in the air to disperse the mob yesterday after they caught the person at Sonapur, near Bangladesh border.

The villagers including women attacked the jawans while trying to rescue the person, police added.

Later, the BSF personnels lathi charged upon the villagers in which four persons were injured, police sources said.

The agitated villagers demanded immediate release of the person and threw stones at Assistant commandant Kamal Chowdhury due to which the BSF jawans were forced to fire a few rounds in the air.

However, the situation was brought under control after the intervention of local police and panchayat.
